Cuban Vaccine against Advanced Lung Cancer Enters Final Clinical TrialsThe creation of the first vaccine against advanced lung cancer is one of the main achievements of the Havana-based Center of Molecular Immunology (CIM). The director of CIM’s development group, Juan Felix Amador, told that new humanized antibodies, which could bring better results in the treatment of this disease, are already in their last stage of clinical trials.

“Nearly 30 countries import products from our center and we have four joint ventures in India, China, Canada and Spain,” Amador said.

Regarding the vaccine against advanced lung cancer, the expert commented that out of the 45 clinical trials currently underway, 32 of them are taking place in Cuba with one per every five patients who suffer from this illness in the Caribbean nation.

Amador announced that, by the 2009-2015 period, they expect that all Cuban patients suffering from cancer will benefit from any of the innovations produced by CIM.

He added that the center’s main areas of research include structural biology, bioinformatics, and nanotechnology.
