FAO Conference in Rome Starts with Priorities The five-day delibertations of the 36th FAO General Conference started Thursday to boost the most important agreements reached at the Food Security Summit that was held in Rome. he meeting was formally opened on Wednesday at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters.

FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf addressed the forum this morning, without heads of State or government and controversial feelings of successes and failures of the summit.

After the Forum's long sessions and criticism to the Final Statement for not responding to the expectations of more than one billion starving people worldwide, Diouf focused on the positive points agreed.

The 193 FAO members will try to turn into a reality four priorities that according to Diouf, should become the main ambitions of the organization in the upcoming years.

FAO reforms within the context of the UN general process, establishment of a High-Level Expert Panel, purpose to stop domestic and international decline of funds for agriculture and food security, prevail in the current panorama.
